You planted a garden, in part, to welcome visitors to your home and make your yard more inviting. If you feel your garden could use a little welcoming boost but aren’t sure how to go about it, here are some tips that will help your garden become the most welcoming in the neighborhood. By implementing a few design elements and having a master plan, you can take your garden to a whole new level of inviting. You’re welcome!
1. Think Outside the Plants
Bringing design elements and objects such as statues, walls, large boulders, birdbaths, or fountains can bring interest to any garden. Visitors can tell those items were placed intentionally, which instantly makes them feel more welcome.
2. Bring Out the Furniture
Nothing says, “come in” like a lovely bench or stool in a shady garden spot. You can even make your own bench on the cheap. A weathered chair, hammock, or secluded gazebo can also make you and your guests want to linger.
3. A Space to Eat
Aside from a simple sitting area, a place to enjoy a meal, cold lemonade, or cup of coffee with friends is always a great idea. A table and chairs tells guests you want them to stick around so you can enjoy their company and good conversation.
4. Repetition
Do you have a quiet garden path you wish more friends would explore? Guide them there with a repeated pattern of garden-friendly objects like terra-cotta pots, lighting, or an attractive rope to hold onto. Install creative pavers or a series of arbors to make the pathway clear. Gently encourage people to “come and see.”
