Before you bring your succulents inside for the winter, I would highly suggest watering them one last time outside. I hate having to water my succulents inside because I have to bring them all over to the sink, wait for them to dry, put them back, etc. Water them 1-2 days before you bring them inside and you won’t have to worry about watering them inside for a while.
If necessary, I suggest replacing the soil in your succulent pot so that you have fresh, well-draining soil. It’s super important to make sure the soil is well-draining because, being inside, you aren’t going to want to have pools of water all over your home.
Along with well-draining soil, you’ll also want to have a pot with a really effective drainage hole. This keeps the succulent healthy and safe, but it also prevents sitting water from gathering in your pots.
If you are going to use the same pot from outdoors, then make sure you clean up the plant, pot, and soil, prior to bringing it inside. Make sure to pull out leaves, twigs, and other debris so that you aren’t tracking them through your home.
Make sure to clean the outside of the container as well. It probably has lots of dirt, gunk, and grime on it that you wouldn’t want scattered throughout your home. Also check for bugs, so they aren’t brought inside. I know this may seem silly, but doing a quick check will keep the bugs out of your home.
When you bring your succulent inside, it’s always a good idea to trim the succulent. Get rid of any leaves or other parts of your succulent that are old or dying!
