Plant A Cutting Garden For Home Grown Flower Bouquets
What is a cutting garden? Simply put, a cutting garden is a flower garden planted with spectacular cut flowers in mind. That means flowers that grow on longer stems, and in the colors you love most in your flower bouquets. These are flowers that do extremely well once they are cut, placed in water, and taken inside to enjoy.
How To Plant A Cutting Garden
First, carve a nice sunny spot in your yard with plenty of room to plant your favorite cut flowers. You could use a spot in your vegetable garden, or a spot in your front yard among the flowers you don’t cut. Just make sure there’s plenty of room for all your favorites to grow.
When you plant a cutting garden, it’s a good idea to plant from seed. That way, you can space out your plantings every two weeks to ensure there will be new blooms in your most favorite flowers for as long as possible.
It’s also helpful to plant varieties that bloom in late spring, early summer, mid-summer, late summer and early fall. Vary the varieties for lots of color options.
