If you’re anything like me, when you empty a jug of milk, you hesitate to throw it right in the trash. They take up a lot of room, and that jug might be useful for something else, right? But in the end, I always usually end up throwing them out. Well, instead of just tossing them, here are 5 creative ways to use those milk jugs in your garden.
1. DIY Cloche
What? Yeah, a cloche is a great way to protect young plants. Cut the bottom of your jugs off, then stick them in the ground around your small plants (peppers, tomatoes, bush beans, etc). They’ll get oxygen and moisture, but be protected from cooler temperatures.
2. Garden Scoop
Just by cutting, you can turn a milk jug into a super-useful scoop. Use it for pet food, fertilizer, soil, or absolutely anything. No need to wash and store when the job is done — it was free!
3. Topsy-Turned Veggie Planter
You know those upside-down vegetable planters? There’s no need to cough up the dough for those when you can make your own with milk jugs. The kids can help with this fun garden project.
4. DIY Watering Can
Try making this quick and simple watering can out of your next empty milk jug. Just don’t throw out the lid! Now all you need is an ice pick.
5. Seed & Fertilizer Spreader
These instructions use a coffee container, but you can do the same with a milk jug. No reason to buy an expensive spreader to plant new grass, distribute ice melter, or fertilize your lawn.
